Attending Classes:

Which class should I attend first?

If you have never trained before then you will be joining our Beginners Program- please join any of the classes labelled ‘Beginners’ on the schedule.

If you are joining our club having earnt at least 1 stripe on your white belt or having had at least 3 months experience, then you can join the mixed levels and fundamentals classes. If you are a coloured belt, you are welcome to attend Advanced classes on the schedule.

However, if you aren’t sure- please message on your student portal and the team will advise you!

What will my first class be like?

During our Beginners programme, you will get an introduction to the fundamentals of Jiu-Jitsu. You'll learn basic techniques, get familiar with the gym, and meet our friendly instructors and members. Don't worry if you are new; our team is here to support you every step of the way. When you enter, there will be a member of the team to greet you,  introduce you to our house rules and show you around. You will then change if necessary and familiarise yourself with the mat space by spending some time getting limbered up before the class starts. You will then be lead through a group warm up and learn the technique of the day. You will have an opportunity to spar at the end of the class which can be taken at your own pace.

If you are coming into the Mixed levels classes, you will be greeted by a member of staff and asked to sign in. You are expected to know the rules of the Ju Jitsu gym but can always ask if not sure! You will then warm up with the rest of the students, learn your technique of the day and have the opportunity to spar also.

What do I need to wear?

For your first class, you should wear comfortable athletic clothing. If you have a Gi (Jiu-Jitsu uniform), please do wear it. If not, we have gis available for purchase at the gym and also Gis that you can rent for a single session. It's also a good idea to bring a water bottle and a towel.

I am a beginner, am I allowed to attend?

Absolutely! Our beginners programme will be best fitting for you so you can learn all the fundamentals you need. Our instructors will ensure you feel welcome and will provide guidance tailored to your experience level.

I have a medical condition. What do I need to do before attending?

If you have a medical condition, please let us know in advance by accurately filling in the medical condition section of your student profile. As part of our health and safety policy, we reserve the right to request further information or a doctor’s note depending on the severity of your condition, illness, or injury. This ensures we can maintain the safety of both yourself and others around you. Additionally, please alert our coaches if you have any concerns or need special considerations during sessions. Your well-being is our top priority, and we are here to support you.

Are there age restrictions for classes?

Our adult sessions are open to individuals, aged 14 and over. We also offer specific classes for kids, tailored to different age groups to ensure appropriate instruction and safety. Cubs are aged 4-7 years old and Juniors are 8-13 years old.

Complaints and cancellations

How do I file a complaint?

To file a complaint, please contact us via the messaging platform on the Gym Desk Members App or website. Provide as much detail as possible about the issue you are experiencing.

What information should I include in my complaint?

When filing a complaint, please include your full name, contact information, a detailed description of the issue, any relevant dates, and any supporting documentation.

How long will it take to receive a response to my complaint?

We aim to acknowledge all complaints within 72 hours and provide a full response within 7-10 business days.

Can I freeze or cancel my membership?

Yes! You’re welcome to do either — here’s how it works:

  • Freezing: You can freeze your membership anytime for just £25/month, which:

    • Keeps your app and class history active

    • Gives access to our members’ WhatsApp group

    • Allows you to continue joining our community socials & events

We recommend freezing if you plan to return, as it avoids a £50 re-joining fee.

  • Cancelling:

Please go onto your Gymdesk membership account and send a message through the system about cancelling. A member of our admin team will be able to see this and action your request.  Please do not try to cancel memberships in person or through whatsapp communication- Gymdesk members app is the only way to do this. Please allow at least 72 hours for acknowledgement of your request.

  • Wrongly charged: If you’ve been charged by mistake, just reach out — we’ll get it sorted. Please allow up to 48 hours for a reply (we’re a small team and doing our best!).
